We are sure that the entire vase started in the deep red color that lines the interior of the vase now, but then was hand painted with a gold gilt sort of paint. The brush strokes make it evident that it is hand painted and just makes it look so Italian and earthy. Unfortunately, right on the front, there’s a golden part that’s missing but it could be fixed or you could put an arrangement that had some draping vines to hide it. Personally, I think it kind of adds to its rustic feel. On the base of the vase, not extended upwards, there are also some parts that have lost this gilding.
The original tag on the base makes it clear that it came from Italy, as well as its number which is 260/2801. Now I’m not sure that this means it is a limited edition, but that’s the way I read it. I’ll leave that to you as the buyer what you think.
