The Bobbsey Twins Books are a series of children's novels written under the name Laura Lee Hope, a pseudonym for various authors.
Published by Grosset & Dunlap of New York, this specific book is a new and enlarged edition but was the first of the series and was published in 1907. Although the title on the book says, The Bobbsey Twins, this book is sometimes referred to as being The Bobbsey Twins Merry Days Indoors and Outdoors.
There are very few of this particular 1904 copyright book available online and ours is definitely in great condition in comparison to many of the Bobbsey Twins books in general.
This book is hardcover, bound in cloth and illustrated. The 196 pages have slightly yellowed due to 100+ years of age but have no tears or folds. There is one page that has come loose from the binding. The cover has some scratches and pen marks, but this cloth cover with a pasted, full color lithographic illustration is overall in good condition. The cover also has some wear from shelf-life on the spine. There is an inscription to "Virginia Slagle Xmas 1929" on the inside first page.
The book measures 5.5" wide x 7.5" tall x 1.25" deep and weighs 14 ounces before packaging.
The Bobbsey Twins, twelve year old fraternal twins, Nan and Bert, and six year old fraternal twins Flossie and Freddie, are the main characters of these beloved books. This series was one of the longest running ever from 1904-1979 written under the collective pseudonym Laura Lee Hope for several different authors.
When the series was revised in the 1960s, some of the titles changed ever so slightly and in some cases a little bit more. You'll want to check one of several sites that lists the books in order, publishers and copyright dates to make sure you have the book you think you have.
It is a Stratemeyer Syndicate series, which were series of books for girls and boys written from 1905-1985. Their authors wrote over 1400 juvenile series books, like The Bobbsey Twins, The Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew, just to name a few. The man behind all of the books was Edward Stratemeyer, who was an author who started writing in high school and the founder of the this syndicate. He determined he couldn’t possibly get all of his own ideas and others that he chose for the different series printed under this Syndicate’s name, so he hired various authors who he thought fit the book best to write it.
