This is a BRAND NEW book. I took the plastic off the outside because I wanted to see if it was signed, which it isn't. Darn! It is in absolutely mint condition. You can tell no one has turned the pages of this book. The cover doesn't have one little bit of damage either. We left part of the original plastic on the bottom, but we're also putting it in a bag to keep it just as perfect as it is.
It was originally published in 1966, but ours is the 2nd edition published in 2004.
The book's title, Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust, was a phrase originally coined by Woody Hayes for the conservative football he liked to have his team play to win.
Ours does include a perfect colorful dust cover, but the hardback cover is also attractive with a unique red cloth cover that seems very durable. The indented/engraved gold lettering on the cover and the spine look sharp and classy, just like the team always looked.
I admit I only glanced at a few pages because I didn't want to hurt the book in the least little bit, but from what I've read it's a very readable book, even for the football fan novice like me. I did my grad work at OSU and will always hold it close in my heart and only root for another team when my undergraduate team, Miami University, plays them. I get to celebrate no matter who wins then!
It's amazing that in 487 pages this author is able to give an amazing account of this extraordinary football team. In 1873 THE OSU was founded and had only 24 students, and didn't start its football team in 1890 and that year won one and lost three but now they're known for their ability to WIN! Ask anyone about Columbus, Ohio and they'll know it's the home of The Ohio State University.
Don't forget some of the phenomenal men that played and coached that team. The author certainly didn't! He discusses some of the greats, like Woody Hayes, Chic Harley Howard Cassady and many more.
And what about TBDBITL! He talks about about The Ohio State Marching Band and how fantastic they are as well.
The rivalry that the entire country knows about between Ohio State and University of Michigan.
There are LOTS of photographs, records and facts to amaze you.
