This vintage spittoon was made by Bennington Pottery in Bennington, Vermont.
As a medium-sized spittoon, it is made of stoneware and features a special glaze known as a Rockingham glaze. The Rockingham glaze was common in Britain and the United States around 1840-1900 to created a manganese-brown/tanish yellow speckled look.
The round body part of this spittoon has a design of seashell shapes that goes all the way around. The top downward-sloping portion has a design of 12 triangular sections.
There is one round whole on one side of the body of the spittoon, and one in the center of the top.
This spittoon is in excellent condition for its age. The glaze has held up very well, there is only one spot of crazing along the downward sloping top part. There are no chips cracks or scratches!
The spittoon measures 7.25" in diameter x 3.5" tall and weighs 4 pounds before packaging.
