• The sugar bowl and lid are in excellent condition, except the lid has the very tip of the stem broken off and was not found.  Lids are difficult to find with the sugar bowl and although it’s got a tiny tip missing, it could easily be painted and made to look just fine by someone who’s good at ceramics.  
• Dish and lid feature carefully hand painted dawn rose pink and up to morning yellow and into that chartreuse green body top with pink daffodils and embossed leaves and a dark green stems for two handles. 
• Sugar measures 5.5" wide x 3.5" tall x 4" deep.
• Many ceramic/pottery places sprung up in the northwestern area of the US and one of them was Hull that started with the help of Addis Emmet Hull in 1905 in Crooksville, Ohio.  They mostly made pottery that people could actually use but soon got started in art pottery in 1917.  Can you imagine a 310’ kiln?!  That’s what Hull had built for $75,000 in 1923!  Still finding they couldn’t provide it fast enough for customers and stores, they started dabbling with buying ceramic/pottery items from Europe, but that only lasted a few years.  When the Depression came, emphasis was on making and buying here in the US to keep America working.  A.E. Hull died in 1930 and his son took over and in 1937 started creating items for men, like Old Spice items, mugs, bottles and cologne.  Then it was onto the novelty items, like their famous Red Riding Hood Cookie Jar and animal items, like foot long piggy banks. At one time they were making 5,000 piggy banks a day and there were a whole lot less people back then.   Their lamps, also made during this time period are really hard to find and very expensive when you do.  Onto getting involved in planters, which was huge during the mid 20th Century to receive a plant in one of their pottery pieces.  In 1950, there was an awful flood and then a fire where their plant burned down, but they were so popular that people were willing to wait to get their order for their Hull item.  It’s easy to tell if your piece was made after 1952 because Hull started marking things just Hull.  Home and garden was their next adventure in creating pottery lines and it was successful as well.  J.B. Hull died in 1978 and less than ten years later with lots of international competition and labor relation problems, Hull closed in 1986.
